When hiring a DJ, several things should be taken into account.

While fees for services are certainly a consideration, they most definitely do not substitute for experience and quality. Most reputable DJ companies will fall within a comparable price range.

While lighting and visual effects are also an excellent touch, any good company will tell you that it is the talent of the DJ, not the lighting, that makes or breaks your reception. Book your entertainer as early as possible. The best DJs are commonly reserved as much as a year in advance.

Protect yourself and your most important celebration by demanding professional, first-rate customer service and PROOF of the following:

Does the company you are considering offer a guarantee?


  • Is the company you are considering a registered business in Wisconsin? How long?
  • Is the company you are considering in good standing with the Better Business Bureau?
  • Does the company return your phone calls or emails promptly?
  • Will the company offer to meet with you after signing the contract to plan your event?
  • Does the company provide backup DJs in the unlikely event they are ever needed?
  • Will they have a long available list of references?


  • Are you getting a professionally trained master of ceremonies, or just a person who plays music?
  • What do you feel comfortable with?
  • Will your entertainer coordinate activities throughout the reception (i.e. toasts, cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc.)?


  • Can your entertainer meet your sound and lighting requirements?
  • Will your entertainer have a wireless microphone so they can move throughout the room? Wireless microphones allow the connection to be with guests, not the equipment.
  • Does your entertainer bring backup equipment just in case?


  • Are you guaranteed that the variety of music you requested will be played?
  • Will the entertainer play songs your guest’s request?
  • Will your entertainer be sensitive to the volume?


  • Will the entertainer be appropriately dressed to enhance the atmosphere?
